The otherwise temperate coastal climate of the Cinderlands is broken by a single, inerasable blighted scar. A burnt and blackened wasteland where nothing grows and animals refuse to live, scored with rivers and pools of lava like open wounds, and at it's center is a single towering, smoldering volcano. This is the the Dragonsgrave, the place where the Dragonlord Paruallex was murdered while attempting to negotiate an end to the Sundering.
Paruallex, the divine lamplighter & guiding flame of knowledge, was among the most esteemed of the dragons, well respected by his fellow dragons, the gods, and even the titans, and beloved by the mortals to whom he showed how to harness fire in their hearths and protected from the darkness through the mortal lamplighter orders who revered him. During The Sundering, he tried desperately to negotiate a ceasefire, and after many setbacks, finally managed to gather representatives from all the warring sides in what is now the Cinderlands. Before the talks could begin however, he was struck down, ending any hopes of an end to the fighting until the Celestial Peace. The noble dragon's body plummeted to the ground like an angry blood-red comet. the lands surrounding the impact, which raised in its wake the towering volcano, have remained blackened and barren ever since. Some believe it is a burial shroud, the Cinderlands still mourning the savage death of such a noble soul, even now. The identity of Paruallex's killer is not clear, with many theories pointing fingers at one or more of the pantheons (including other dragons) Demons, or even mortals. complicating the matter is that both Gods and Dragons (Titans never interact with their worshippers) are incredibly reluctant to speak on the matter. Still, their are those scholars who continue to piece together fragmentary accounts in search of the truth, some out of curiosity, others hoping bringing the murderer into the light could perhaps finally allow the Cinderlands to heal.
