The docks might be considered the "mouth" of Fyrefall, it provides the nourishment the rest of the city needs to survive in the form of trade, ships coming and going all the time arriving with holds full of goods from other continents and leaving with Fyrefall made goods to sell in other lands. Unfortunately for the residents, that flow of trade may be in jeopardy, because the docks is also teetering on the brink of becoming a warzone. The Ullyun and Separi Mermeis directly or indirectly control almost every aspect of commerce in the docks between them- The warehouses, the longshoremen, even the cheap taverns where sailors go to get drunk, and both groups just hate that the other is holding onto territory they consider theirs. It started as a standard cutthroat merchant conflict- backroom deals, undercutting the competitor, but over time It's escalated. Such is their hatred for one another (due not only to business, but also the religious differences that split the Ugari as a whole) that the normally benign trading families have adopted tactics reminiscent of a thieves' guild to compete with each other. Both groups employ gangs of thugs (drawn mainly from longshoremen employed by the MermeiĀ who are looking either for some extra coin on the side or an excuse to get into trouble) to protect their assets or drive away the competition, or bribing or "encouraging" warehouse owners not to store their rival's goods. Their have been a few brawls so far but nothing serious yet, although it's clear things are getting close to that if something doesn't change soon.
