News Literacy Project

When? Wednesday, October 4, 2023, 5:00-6:30 p.m.

Where? On Zoom. Register here to get the Zoom link. 

You'll register for all 8 sessions in Part 1, but don't have to attend all of them. 

Educators will receive up to 1.5 clock hours per session, based on the actual time they spend in each synchronous session.

Video recordings will be available afterwards, but not eligible for clock hours.

What will you learn & who is it for? You'll learn about many free resources available from the News Literacy Project that can be used in classrooms or libraries, including self-paced learning activities, lesson plans, and fun quizzes.

T Some activities can be used with older children/elementary students, but most are designed for teens/secondary students

S Some activities can be used in a public library setting, but most are designed for a school setting

About presenter Erin Olson: 

Erin is News Literacy Project’s senior manager of education partnerships (West). She began her career as a middle school language arts teacher in Storm Lake, Iowa, and then transitioned to teaching high school English in Sioux Rapids, Iowa. Her interest in meaningful technology integration led her to a position as a technology integrationist for a regional state education agency. Erin supported districts with technology integration, literacy, project-based learning, and STEM. She then returned to her home district to serve as an instructional leader and instructional coach. Erin holds two degrees from Buena Vista University: a bachelor’s degree in English and a master’s degree in Instructional and Curriculum/Effective Teaching.
