What is Slack and Why Use It?

Slack is an app for any computer or mobile device that connects teams of participants in a collaborative sharing space. An all-in-one space to communicate, share files and materials, video chat, and set up calendar alerts and reminders.

Slack also connects across several platforms to bring all of your digital resources together to share with your team. In addition, the APIs in the application allow you to create your own sharing platform and tailer to your team's needs.

How could you use this for mobile learning?

Slack is mostly marketing to commercial businesses, as a means for their employees to stay connected and productive. In a mobile-learning environment, this is a great "alternative to email" (as Slack sometimes markets itself) to communicate with students and classes. It shares many of the same LMS functions as Google Classroom, save the grading (but this is not necessarily a non-negotiable for some teachers.)

The following are testimonials:

“Slack is really the backbone of what we do. It's primarily the way that business gets done at Zapier.”

Cody Jones, Head of Partnerships, Zapier

“The fact that Slack exists and is such an essential tool, it's really helped us with scaling and still feeling connected to one another across remote offices and remote teams.”

Lisa Madokoro, Culture Specialist, Shopify

Special Considerations

This application is available on all mobile devices, and is accessible through any web browser on a computer.
