MSc by Research

Evolutionary Behavioural Science

Middlesex University offers an MSc by Research programme. BSL has developed a pathway within this offer for Evolutionary Behavioural Science (EBS).

The MSc is entirely focused on the production of a thesis within one calendar year, full time,  or two years part time. Students develop a project with their Director of Studies and a second supervisor in the first few months of the process, and then conduct the research with support. In many ways the process mirrors that of a PhD, but the thesis is shorter.

The aim of the MSc is to enable students to gain practical and theoretical skills in their chosen area. These skills will be useful in a number of settings after graduation. Whilst the MSc is not formally taught, seminars and other support are developed and offered on a bespoke basis in order to help students gain these skills.

Recent graduates from the programme have worked on human-gull interactions in urban settings, kittiwake chick aggression and begging, and the discrimination of non-human vocalizations by humans.  But we are interested in anything that falls under the EBS umbrella. For further examples see our current project list and also here.
