Painting: Black Lives Matter by Banksy.
KQ: Do the Arts have the power to challenge established moral values.
The painting shows the American flag being burned by a candle lit for a memorial to a black man. It was painted during the Black Lives Matters protests in USA in the wake of the murder of George Floyd in 2020.
The painting shows that the Arts have the capacity to challenge the moral values of specific sectors of the population. Whether the arts have 'the power' depends upon how we define power. If power is merely capacity then this is evidential by the existence of the painting. However if power requires a change in those moral values then this piece of artwork alone does not establish that ability.
