Knowledge not RLS.
The following exercises are designed to help students to focus on Knowledge Issues in ToK rather than focussing on RLS.
If you need help with this you can read the following:
The Really Easy Guide to Knowledge Questions
Now have a look at Knowledge Issues (or Problems with Knowledge)
2. Choose 3 Areas of Knowledge, and explain 2 Knowledge Issues (problems of knowledge production) associated with each area. You can get help with this by using the Knowledge Framework linked here. An example of 1 Knowledge Issue for AoK Religious Knowledge Systems is :
“A Knowledge Issue in AoK Religious Knowledge Systems is the oft hierarchical nature of Knowledge Production. Much Religious Knowledge is passed down from those deemed to be in authority, or from historical texts. Consequently contestable interrogation of this knowledge is at best discouraged, at worst it is forbidden. This is a problem for RKS as it means there is often little evolution of ideas into newer, more contemporary times.”
3. Choose 1 of the Knowledge Claims below and briefly outline (100-300 words) the evidence for and against the claim.
a) In AoK History the reliability of knowledge can be established, but the validity will always be questionable.
b) The Scope and Concepts from an Indigenous Knowledge System is not understandable to someone who does not come from the same indigenous group.
c) Value in The Arts is essentially a product of Personal Knowledge not Shared Knowledge.
