Honesty is a crucial element in a counseling relationship. Honesty begins with the first interaction with a student in establishing confidentiality and its limits. It continues as students want to know their academic standing and potential. It is not for school counselors to diminish anyone's goals but to provide honest support as students work to achieve them. Being honest in one's dealings is a reflection of their true character. As more interactions occur with students, I will have the opportunity to have and work through moral dilemmas with honesty.
