School counselors deliver an effective school counseling program through Direct and Indirect student services. Direct student services include face-to-face interactions with students. Working directly with students gives school counselors an opportunity to develop rapport, familiarize themselves with individual student challenges, needs and helps school counselors to tailorize plans to help students succeed. Instruction, appraisal and advisement and individual counseling are examples of direct student services. Indirect student services are non face-to-face and involve the behind the scenes work school counselors perform for the benefit of students. These include consultation, collaboration and referrals.Â
