Compassion was best displayed by the Savior, Jesus Christ. As a future graduate of Grand Canyon University and being a part of the helping community, compassion is necessary to truly support students in their individual development. Helping them overcome challenges is better achieved through effective counseling. I have always felt like I was a compassionate person, but working firsthand with students has given me a broader opportunity to support students in their challenges. Being an effective listener to their needs, both verbalized and those beneath the surface, stems from being a compassionate listener. It is possible to being compassion depleted, so it becomes more vital to revisit the Savior, His ministry, and rejuvenate the desire to compassionately serve students.
