Purpose of the advisory council = The purpose of the advisory council is to examine the effectiveness of the school counseling program. The advisory council has a vision statement and an agenda to address student and counseling program needs. Annual student outcome goals are also created and addressed each meeting. This evaluation can happen several times a year and is made up of stakeholders to adhere and inform a variety of viewpoints.
Representation of stakeholders = Stakeholders should represent a variety of positions outside of the school counseling program. These valuable opinions are unbiased as they do not engage in the day to day function of the school counseling program but provide valuable input to inform the direction of the school counseling program.
Size of the council = The size of the council could range from 5-7 individuals. Too few individuals would not reflect a variety of viewpoints and too many individuals may prove unproductive with too many individuals contributing and not coming to consensus.
Appropriate candidates for council participation = Stakeholders include school administrators, school counselors, school psychologists, community members and school board members.
Chairperson = This can be an elected or volunteered, yet agreed upon individual who helps to run each advisory council.
Membership terms (appointment timeframes for council members) - Individuals could serve on the advisory council for one school year terms and then be reinstituted or replaced based on the needs of the advisory council.
