Just as school counselors need to regularly assess their program effectiveness, school counselors assess their personal development through reflecting on feedback from supervisors and co-workers. My supervisors have been supportive in my development as a school counselor, giving constructive feedback to help me develop, enhance my strengths and improve in weaker areas. I have gone from being an observer to being an active participant in counseling check-ins, college and career counseling and helping improve the school counseling program as a whole. This has occurred in large part from reflecting on self-improvement. “School counselors regularly assess their progress toward the design and delivery of a comprehensive school counseling program” (ASCA, 2019). Regular program assessment helps focus and refocus on student needs as they are constantly changing.
