Flat lands in the northeast of the island continent of Mocueyoh, the Kingdom of Gykken (Dychēol ku-Gykken) is known for its silver, treegrass, rubber (rare though it is), and junk ships of maple. The Dominion of Koppuni (Meokken ku-Koppuni) lies to the west of Gykken; it is younger, more given over to the mining of minerals and herding of animals, and is the centre of the Dusin Church of Kathan. Both of these speak related dialects of the Gykkeni language.
A westerly region of Gykken, Dohaeb (locally Dyhaeb) is known for its snow and silver, as well as for its monasteries dedicated to the Virtues in abstract form.
A typical Gykkeni family (ruk) is quite large and quite old; typical among the Gykkura is the selection of new names for children based on the name portions of their ancestors, and the selection of a surname based on the ancestral land claimed by that clan. There are over five hundred surnames in general use—and of these, around a full four hundred are derived from place-names.
I-ruk tend to be quite close-knit, especially among the upper class.
