The system in current use across much of the world divides the year into twelve months of thirty days for regularity of use. The names of these months change from place to place. The chronology starts with the appearance of a supernova in the year 1 AB, over a thousand years ago.
Another calendar of some note is the six-season calendar used in southern Yandjee, each season being approximately sixty days long and dated based on distance from an upcoming midpoint or border. One might expect, for example, someone to refer to a date as "twelve days before Fire's High", meaning eighteen days into the year (Fire being the first season).
