The Atlantic Declaration:
The Atlantic Declaration signed between The United Nations and The United Kingdom by US President Mr.Joe Biden and UK Prime Minister Mr. Rishi Sunak, accompanied by the Action plan form and re-establish an innovative partnership between the unique alliance and happens to be the ‘first of its kind’ fanning across several spectrums such as economical, commercial, technological, and trade relations.
The crucial connection between the US and the UK has allowed them to work together to lead on problems of international significance during the past century. They have cooperated to create an open, rules-based international order since the Atlantic Charter was signed in 1941, building on their steadfast commitment to common principles. They emphasized and updated this goal in the New Atlantic Charter, which was signed in 2021. Together, they have also created a framework for the global economy that has supported their economic strength and aided in the emancipation of millions of people from poverty. The strongest defense and security cooperation, a robust economic partnership, global leadership in science and technology, and tight linkages between their people and civic society, serve as the cornerstones of their vital bilateral relationship.
They say that the re-establishment of this alliance is imperative to international as well as national peace and stability, especially because they are pressured to face new challenges to international stability – the People's Republic of China (PRC), authoritarian regimes like Russia, disruptive technology, non-state players, and global problems like climate change.
A briefing room statement released by The White House states ‘Through the U.S.-UK Indo-Pacific Dialogue we will continue to find new opportunities to coordinate our approaches, to support ASEAN and ASEAN centrality, to partner with the Pacific Islands, to coordinate on economic and technological advancement, and to contribute to regional peace and stability, including through AUKUS and expanded joint exercises and planning, including trilaterally’.
A groundbreaking relationship throughout the economic, scientific, commercial, and trade connection spectrums is built on the Atlantic Declaration and its associated Action Plan. This partnership requires our combined leadership and imagination to materialize fully.
It will make up a new framework for economic security that includes better defensive toolkits and ever-closer collaboration on crucial and emerging technologies. It will assist the US and the UK in our initiatives to take advantage of the energy transition and technological advancements to promote broadly shared growth, provide quality employment, and leave no community behind. It will investigate how to strengthen our business and investment ties. Additionally, it will make their alliance stronger in the areas of space, research, military, and health - – allowing them to explore increased cooperation in other areas for mutual economic benefit.
Action Plan for a Twenty-First Century US-UK Economic Partnership:
Deep economic links between the US and the UK have long been a source of strength for both countries. The U.S.-UK bilateral investment partnership is the greatest in the world, sustaining nearly 2.7 million jobs in both nations with over $1.5 trillion in stock. They have the chance to serve as an example of what successful economic cooperation in the twenty-first century should look like as they adapt their unrivaled economic relationship to reflect today's difficulties. Together, the US and the UK can take the lead in creating a new type of economic partnership that promotes economic growth and competitiveness, increases capacity, resilience, and inclusivity, and benefits their communities, workers, businesses, environment, and national security.
As the first steps in this new partnership, they are taking concrete and coordinated actions to deepen this partnership across five pillars, by:
ensuring US-UK leadership in critical and emerging technologies,
advancing ever-closer cooperation on economic security and technology protection toolkits and supply chains,
partnering on an inclusive and responsible digital transformation,
building the clean energy economy of the future, and
further strengthening our alliance across defense, health security, and space.
Senior White House and Downing Street representatives will convene biannually under the Atlantic Declaration Action Plan (ADAPT) to develop and drive forward concrete progress across the Atlantic Declaration Action Plan and ensure increasing ambition over the next months and years.
