Bangladeshi Prime Minister, Sheikh Hasina, has resigned as Prime Minister and left Dhaka, following increased violent riots within the region, a source quoted by AFP said. She was on the way to India.
"They and her sister stayed away from Ganabhaban (the Prime Minister's official residence) in fear of their safety," the AFP informer said.
Setting out from Bangabhaban around 2:30 in the afternoon on a military helicopter, was Sheikh Hasina with her little sister, Sheikh Rehana, who was her bodyguard. Along the way, the aircraft plunged into Indian airspace and is now at Hazaribagh, said Flightradar24 data.
The Army Chief spoke at a news conference and confirmed Hasina's resignation. In addition, he mentioned plans for an interim government, which would oversee the management of the nation. He acknowledged the severe impact of the protests on the nations economy and took full responsibility for the situation.
The general, who was dressed in army uniform, said, "We will set up an interim government," on a nationally televised broadcast, announcing Sheikh Hasina's resignation. It has not been specified whether or not he would be a member of this team.
