The CAT is Charlottesville public transportation. Students get to ride this for free as long as we have our ID. This will take out off grounds and to places like Fashion Square Mall, Walmart, etc. The app shows you the CAT buses, the Charlottesville Downtown Free Trolley, and the UTS (University buses). The times are not 100% accurate, so be at the stop 5 min before the bus is supposed to come.
This is the app that tracks all UTS (University) buses. These times are more accurate than the CAT. You can also order a Safe Ride from this app by clicking on the sitting figure icon on the bottom left corner of the map.
Mobile id is basically having your ID on your phone. You can open pretty much any door that you can open your physical ID. Download the app and chose the school.
- Note: Mobile ID does not work with swiping into dining halls. If you log in and out of your mobile ID too many times then you can get logged out permanently and you will have to contact an administrator to log back in.
- This is an app that lets you order a meal from meal exchange places and pick it up when it’s ready.
- This app is an extra security measure used when logging into your net badge. As part of new security measures for the university, every time that you log into official UVA services that use netbadge (such as SIS and gmail) you will have to approve the sign in through your phone using this app. It will send you a little push notification. If you do not want to download the app you can request a set of codes that will be sent through text message and you can use every time you sign in. Because of this you must have a phone with texting or calling service. You can get around this by setting up a free google phone number with a personal email to receive the code texts (useful also for study abroad).
- Venmo is linked to your bank account and lets you transfer money without a fee or wait. A lot of college students use it to pay dues for clubs, or to just pay each other back for buying something.
- Note: There is a small fee when you transfer on the weekends.
