Mission: The Charlottesville-area Immigrant Resource and Advocacy Coalition is a network of individuals and organizations formed to support and protect our immigrant neighbors, particularly those facing discrimination, detention, and deportation. We recognize that criminalizing and removing immigrants is nothing new, but rather a consistent pattern in U.S. history. It is also clear that these forms of violence are tied to two centuries of American political as well as economic intervention in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Mission: Sin Barreras is a small Charlottesville-based non-profit that focuses on outreach to the immigrant (primarily Hispanic) community, connecting individuals to services. We provide individual services, such as low-cost legal counseling , direct services to Deferred Action (DACA) children, and soon, to Deferred Action Parents. In Advocacy, we participate with other Latino-oriented agencies on Hispanic issues, and we sponsor various civic events: the annual C’ville Sabroso cultural fair, a Help Fair, and several annual dances.
Mission: We are hoping to narrow the gap between UVA and minority communities locally. Enhance cultural competency among UVA students and faculty. Institutional, faculty and student dedication to these groups may enhance diversity and inclusion in our institution.

Mission: The Legal Aid Justice Center battles poverty and injustice by solving critical legal problems for individuals and communities. Then we use what we learn from those efforts to identify, investigate, and attack systemic injustices. The Legal Aid Justice Center is committed to providing a full range of services to our clients, including services our federal and state governments choose not to fund. We utilize a mix of zealous individual representation, group and class litigation, community organizing, policy advocacy, and media relations.
Mission: Latinx and Migrant Aid serves Albemarle County and Charlottesville Latinx and migrant community through six programs: Homework Helpers, Cherry Avenue, Iglesia de Palabra Viva, Sin Barreras, and Adult Tutoring. At various sites throughout the area, volunteers tutor Latinx working migrants and their majority Spanish speaking families in English as a Second Language and general academic skills. Speaking Spanish is not required for all of our sites, though there are places where Spanish speakers are needed!
