This network will also function to share resources to current and prospective Latinx students, such as internship information and potential job opportunities. We hope to create a community-based space of Latinx students that will support one another in their academic, social, and professional pursuits. CLARO aims to promote an inclusive, diverse, and equitable environment for all Latin American students at UVA by organizing initiatives that promote community building, intersectional cultural awareness, and academic success. Our organization focuses its efforts on celebrating the diversity of cultures and identities that exist in Latin America rather than promoting the idea of a monolithic, Spanish-speaking "Latinx" community. For example, this year, we will be organizing language workshops in which volunteers will teach CLARO members languages such as Quechua and Haitian Creole to demystify the idea that everyone in Latin America speaks Spanish. Other events our organization will plan include ¡Saca tu Bandera! (a flag party), Cultura Fest, Primavera (a semi-formal), as well as game nights, cooking classes, and casual hangouts.
The Latin American Identities Coalition at UVA is a coalition of Latin American organizations who strive to support, empower, and advocate for Latin American students at the University of Virginia.
