This minor was recently added in 2017 and focuses on the study of Latinx people and their culture.

The Latin American Studies Program (LASP) promotes the multidisciplinary study of the Americas. A major or minor allows students to develop expertise in the region, with flexibility to specialize in areas like global development, foreign policy, or human rights.
Interdisciplinary Approach: Both the Latinx Studies minor and the Latin American Studies major/minor emphasize an interdisciplinary approach, drawing from various departments and disciplines.
Course Requirements:
Latinx Studies Minor: Students must take at least two core courses (or other approved courses with primarily Latinx content) and one comparative race/ethnicity course.
Latin American Studies Minor: Students must complete 18 credits of courses in the Latin American field, including a language requirement (SPAN 2020 or PORT 2120), and take LAST 2050, an interdisciplinary seminar.
