A diamante poem allows students to dive deeper into a topic as they are tasked at determining adjectives, verbs, and examples to assign to each term. This strategy can be used across all disciplines and can be altered to fit the current classroom needs. Illustrations, linking sentences, synonyms, explanations, summaries, etc. can be added around the diamond for students to further process the material.Â
Sometimes it is harder to assign a verb to a term or topic, but students are tasked with being creative in these instances. As you can see in the third example below, mitosis-ing was used a verb. It is not actually a word at all, but this was a creative way to show understanding of the topic when it was nearly impossible to assign an actual verb to the term. The goal is to get students processing the material at a deeper level so they learn from it.
