West Virginia teachers are required to complete a yearly evaluation as defined in West Virginia Board of Educator Policy 5310.
The purpose of this evaluation is to set high standards of performance for educators, ensure high-quality instruction focused on increasing student achievement, encourage continuous growth and improvement through personal reflection and goal setting, and serve as a tool in developing coaching and mentoring programs.

Annual Requirements:
Orientation within 2 weeks of the reporting date
Helps employees understand purposes, instruments, and procedures used in the evaluation process
Self-Reflection by October 1st
Two Student Learning Goals by November 1st
Instructional Observations
Initial Progression: Less than 3 years experience
4 Observations-2 Schedule and 2 Unscheduled
1st Observation before November 1st
2nd Observation between November 1st and January 1st
3rd Observation between January 1st and March 1st
4th Observation between March 1st and May 1st
Intermediate Progression: 4-5 years experience
2 Observations-1 Scheduled and 1 Unscheduled
1st Observation before November 1st
2nd Observation before May 1st
Advanced Progression
Not required but recommended
Can be requested by the teacher within a timeframe established by the teacher and the evaluator
