The X Factor, a way for ordinary people to have their shot at becoming a superstar. These 5 young teens didn’t throw away their shot, successful auditions got Zayn Malik, Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Liam Payne and Niall Horan through several rounds of the show but unfortunately, they were cut. That was until Simon Cowell decided to form them into a band, a band that would become known as One Direction. Smashing it through the show, they finished in third place, however, that wasn’t the end for the blossoming boy band. A number 1 hit with their debut single “What Makes You Beautiful” skyrocketed the 5 into worldwide fame. Releasing 5 record-breaking albums, playing countless stadiums, and performing in front of millions of people One Direction became the biggest boy band of all time. They even surpassed The Beatles in breaking records. For five years they rocked the music industry and brought joy to millions of fans, then in 2015, it was announced that Zayn would be leaving the band. A shock to many however it was an important step in his own health and ultimately proved to be the best decision he could make. The following year, the band announced an 18-month hiatus, a time to recharge after a hectic 5 years. A well-deserved break at that, releasing 5 albums in 5 years and touring at the same time. And that brings us to now, month 57 of the hiatus. All five members have gone on to build incredibly successful solo careers, and while it does not look likely that they will reform we will always hold on to the hope that “this is not the end.”
