Summer Sailstice is a real-world international, open‑to‑everyone global sailing celebration held each year on the Saturday nearest the summer solstice. Sailors participate in any way they like - racing, cruising, teaching kids to sail, joining local club events, or simply taking their own boat out for a quiet afternoon. The goal is to unite sailors worldwide, make sailing more visible, and share the joy of life under sail.
Founder, sailor and publisher John Arndt, wanted a single, uplifting day when sailors everywhere could celebrate their shared passion. The first year saw around 200 boats sign up; today, participation has expanded to nearly 5,000 registered boats worldwide.
Summer Sailstice is built around four core ideas:
Sailors everywhere—from offshore racers to beach‑cat sailors—take part in their own way. The event emphasises connection, visibility, and shared enthusiasm.
Held near the longest day of the year, it symbolises the height of the sailing season and the joy of being on the water in summer.
Anyone can join: beginners, families, yacht clubs, schools, and seasoned sailors alike. Events range from casual raft‑ups to major regattas.
The mission explicitly includes “having fun doing it,” reflecting the spirit of relaxed, joyful participation.
