How do I get it into my new semester's course?
If you're course copying from a previous course that already had the liquid syllabus, just do the normal course copy procedure. The syllabus will be copied as well!
If you're teaching a course that didn't previously have the liquid syllabus involved:
All blank course shells will have the basic syllabus template included. HOWEVER - if you've already copied over your old content and PDF syllabus, it'll overwrite and wipe out the template. Contact the CETL and we can re-add the template for you.
If you haven't yet done a course copy, here's the solution: complete most of the steps for a normal course copy. However, click the "Select Content" option. After you've added the import to the Queue, there will be a "Selevt Content" button. Click that and check the boxes for all content EXCEPT your syllabus. This will preserve the template in your new course while still bringing over all your other files/modules/assignments.
Does it follow me when I course copy?
Yep!
How do I turn in a copy of it to my admins/dean?
Looking at your syllabus page, press Ctrl+P or right-click anywhere on the page and click "Print." In the printer pop-up window, select the option that mentions PDF (i.e. Print to PDF, Adobe PDF, Save as PDF). Next, type a title for your PDF and where you'd like to save it to your computer. It might not be as pretty as the old syllabi, but it's accepted by admin and perfectly fine! It's just archived.
If I already had the liquid syllabus last semester, what do I need to update?
Only what's changed! Typically, that's just the term and meeting locations/dates at the very top. If you've changed your assignments, curriculum, or edited your own instructor policies, be sure to update those areas as well.
Can I turn the syllabus portion of the course "off" or unpublished until I'm ready?
Nope! This is a core part of the class.
What if I have cross-listed or unique course needs?
Chat with the CETL! We have come special circumstances, and we create unique solutions based on your needs.
Do i need to stay on top of university policy changes?
Nope! That's a major win for liquid syllabi. If you click "University Policies" at the top, the CETL and leadership maintain the page with all the policies listed there. [Note: the page leads to a STUDENT hub. Most instructors aren't enrolled. Don't worry if you get an error when clicking the "University Policies" button.]
Have there been changes to the base liquid syllabus template in the last couple of semesters that i'll need to add to mine?
Nope!
I want to put dates on my syllabus, but I have merged sections with different due dates.
It's hard to break the habit, but the CETL highly recommends NOT putting due dates directly into the syllabus. Here's why: all assignments, due dates, and links are automatically included below your syllabus. Adding dates into the text of your liquid syllabus is not only redundant but is also more work for you each term!
In the "Course Summary" below your syllabus, students will automatically see the dates assigned to their specific section.
How do i make sure I have the course summary showing?
When in "Edit" mode on the syllabus page, look just below the textbox area, to the left. Make sure the box is checked to show the course summary. That's it!
How much/where can I customize the liquid syllabus?
Great question! It's meant to be personalized! The various areas with titles (i.e. instructor policies, the charge of point values, etc.) are required for accreditation reasons. However, you can ADD whatever you'd like! Add a welome video. Add memes. Plant Easter eggs that are part of an assignment later to test student reading.
Click "Edit" at the top right to make changes. Be sure to click UPDATE before leaving the page, or you'll lose all your work!
