Want help getting ready for the new semester? Follow the instructions on this page and/or reach out to the CETL! 😀
You can copy your own content - the process is very simple and takes just a few minutes! You can follow our step-by-step guides below to make sure your content is imported correctly.
Your old announcements were copied over, but you probably don't want all of them! You can either delete them or make edits so that they'll be ready to be re-released in the upcoming semester. If you re-use announcements, we recommend always adding a delay date when posting announcements, even if it's just a few minutes later. That way, when you copy from course to course, the posting dates will also update.Â
There is some filler text on the home page - make sure to remove it and make that section your own! You can include the course description, a welcome paragraph, or anything else you choose! Ensure that you have updated the instructor information page to include your information. Also check your home page paragraph and liquid syllabus for filler text.
You have several options to add or remove links on the left-hand navigation menu. You can view the Navigation tab in the course settings to change what is available for students.Â
Canvas utilizes modules to present content. The idea is that each module is a "chunk" of content that is all related - either by time or by topic. You should add resources, content, and assignments all together to create a module. Click the button below to see some examples.
Make sure you publish all your modules and content - even if your content is published but the module it is in is unpublished, it will not be visible to students.
When you add a due date to any assignment in Canvas, that due date displays in many locations. It will display directly below the title in the modules and assignments pages (as seen in some examples above), in the course calendar, in student to-do sections, and in the student list view. Because of this transparency, we recommend removing references to dates in the titles and text of your assignments!Â
You can add dates to your assignments in Canvas in two ways: editing individual assignment dates or bulk updating your dates from the Assignments tab.
Run the Link Validator (found in settings) to make sure all of your links still work!Â
