This page only captures recent and substantial changes to the Canvas platform.
To read about ALL updates and upgrades, access the Canvas Roadmap website provided by Instructure.
Create "tags" to group students together to make assigning and grading easier! These tags are NOT visible to students- only you. Tags can be used for learning needs, academic progress, and more. See full roadmap for details.
Example tag: Football Students
Use: Easily asssign an extended due date for these athletes due to a football game
Protect your privacy and minimize distractions for students! Starting Sept 22nd, YouTube may start showing ads on videos you've embedded in your courses. To combat this, Canvas has created a simple YouTube connector within Canvas Studio. (Located on course menus, if enabled, or in the main blue menu.)
Using this connector in Studio means no ads, overlays, or cards are displayed to students. Only the video will display in an anonymous mode.

Click "Account", then toggle the font option on/off as needed.
Be sure to make your students aware of this wonderful feature!!

NEW!!!! Evaluation portfolios can use a course (or multiple across a department or degree plan) as a foundation. You can link to specific assignments, tag skills achieved and streamline grading from within SpeedGrader.
There's a "request revisions" option and great opportunities for giving feedback.
These could be a great option for grads to take with them to future employers, or even to demonstrate accomplished courses/skills for licensure reasons.

Encourage students to download the STUDENT Canvas app on their phones (not the instructor one by accident). Next, they can install a Canvas widget directly onto the main screen of their phone.
Easily access grades and to-do's with upcoming assignment due dates & events.
Notes:
CETL has a page of instructions for students located in the Canvas Commons. Search "txwes" and you'll find it. Import it into your Getting Started module and students will know how to add the widget to their phone.
The Canvas site has an iOS guide and an Android guide. Make sure students use the correct one.
