Dr. John Buchanan

Dr. Buchanan serves as CEO and CSO for the Center for Aquaculture Technologies (CAT). He previously was Director of Research and Development for AquaBounty Technologies, where he was a leader in the FDA approval of the first transgenic food animal.  He has had an influential role in the adoption of advanced genetic improvement technologies in the aquaculture industry, including genome editing, surrogate technologies, genetic engineering, selective breeding, hatchery technologies, genotyping, and genomics. He also has experience directing and conducting studies compliant with governmental regulatory standards (GLP/GCP), and served as research faculty at the University of California at San Diego School of Medicine.
