Melissa Rubin’s “Advertisements R Us” describes the insight of Cola-Cola advertisements concerning life and culture that is associated with “Mainstream” and attempts to influence or persuade buyers to associate the so-called positive aspects of the culture with their products. She analyzes the components of the Coke ad featured in the 1950 “Coca-Cola Bottler” magazine such as the setting of the ad, placement of, the specific characters, and the text within the ad. She makes use of the history of the time in which advertisements were printed and frequently records of the agency itself as proof to aid her claims about how it displays the “mainstream” of its days.

Americans that previously served and been deployed in War World II were shown gratitude and support. Melissa Rubin’s advertisement R Us has persuaded me to accept her conclusion because all the facts are there, and she provides credible evidence that seems to fit within the era of the ad. I love the fact that Rubin’s Advertisements R Us starts off with a sentence that makes her audience think and question. Rubin’s introduction utilizes questions and background information on advertisements to get readers interested. She explains how advertisements achieve their goals by targeting their audience utilizing texts and images. Her introduction tells her readers what her piece of writing is about, and from there she utilized examples of a Coca-Cola advertisement in the body paragraph.
