Mount Pilatus is a breathtaking mountain right in the middle of Switzerland, rising about 2,128 meters. According to local myth, the mountain was haunted by dragons! As the story goes, in the summer of 1421, a dragon flew to the mountain and crashed, leaving the Dragon Stone that was declared to have healing powers in 1509. Today, it's known for its dramatic peaks and beautiful views.
Getting to Mount Pilatus is its own experience, including the world's steepest cogwheel railway, with a gradient of 48%. There are also scenic cable cars, and these two can be combined into a "Golden Round Trip". Ticket prices vary, but generally would be around 70-100 Francs for adults. At the top, you'll find hiking trails, restaurants, and stunning views.
To get to Mount Pilatus from the city, your best bet is to rent a car or go with a tour. It is possible to get there by train, but complicated and not recommended. With a car, it's a simple 25-minute journey up to the mountains, where you can stay the night or come back down after exploring!
