The Basel Minster is a Gothic-style cathedral built between 1019 and 1500. It stands at a height of 67 metres and towers over the Rhine River. The cathedral's red sandstone exterior makes it distinct, as well as the patterned roof and twin spires.
The church has free entry, and is open to visitors daily. For something special, you can climb up the 250 steps to get to the top of the towers for only 6 Francs, and get amazing panoramic views of Basel. On a clear day, you can even get glimpses of the nearby France and Germany! To dive deeper into the history of the church, like Erasmus of Rotterdam, who is buried there, guided tours are also available. Basel Minster is a beautiful, peaceful and historic landmark to stop at when in the city.
Unfortunately, there are no train routes from the Hotel Rochat to Basel Minster, but a quick 13-minute car ride will get you there! A more budget-friendly option for those who are fit is a 13-15 minute walk.
