The Kunstmuseum is one of the oldest art museums not only in Switzerland, but in the world! Its collections of artworks date back to around 1400, and the museum was opened in 1661. The museum hosts hundreds of thousands of paintings, sculptures, and prints spanning over seven centuries, and is incredibly iconic and highly respected.
The Kunstmuseum is open Tuesday through Sunday, and adult tickets generally cost 16 Francs, while students or children/adolescents under 20 can often get in for free! The museum is split into three buildings- Hauptbau, Neubau, and Gegenwart. Kunstmuseum is full of interactive exhibitions and impressive displays, and with guided tours and a lovely café, it is the place to be.
From the Hotel Rochat, the Kunstmuseum Basel is 15 minutes by train. Firstly, it's a 5-minute walk to the Schifflande station, then 3 stops on the Schlossstrasse until you reach Bankverein. From there, walk for 4 minutes to the Kunstmuseum!
