Deputy Chief Sunny Liu joined the Sussex Metro Police Department on November 7th, 2019. Sunny transferred from the Delaware State Police to the Sussex Metro Police as a captain within the DSP. Before Sunny worked in the DSP, he could be found patrolling the county in a SCSO Dodge Charger. Alas, the original Sussex County Sheriff's Office shut down in November of 2018. Before moving to Delaware, Sunny served with the Durham Regional Police Service, located in Ontario, Canada. Sunny was also the deputy head of the SMPD Detectives unit, which specializes in investigating various crimes and combating the growing drug epidemic in metro Sussex County. On July 6th, 2020, Sunny Liu was promoted to Chief of Police, a position he served until January 3rd, 2021. Sunny enjoys keeping peace within Sussex County, and hopes that he is able to solve more active investigations. Sunny attempts to keep calls as peaceful as possible, and he tries his best to de-escalate situations without having to use any firearms or non-lethal weapons. Deputy Chief Liu will continue to strive for excellence within the SMPD.
In his spare time, Sunny can be found tinkering with his cars, which include a Mercury Maruader, and a Honda Integra Type R. Sunny can also be found navigating the tight twisty bends of Delancy Gorge in his car. Sunny is also an aspiring chef, and enjoys various world wide cuisine.
