Hyperlink Accessibility

According to the WebAIM article Screen Readers and Links, link display text should be clear, descriptive, and make sense out of context.

Users of assistive technology often use the process of tabbing through a page's links to help navigate around the page, so it is especially important that these elements are clearly defined.

Tips

  • Use clear, descriptive display text so that the user knows exactly where the link leads to.
  • Avoid using vague link titles like "Click Here" and "Link" as these do not provide any information about the resource being linked to.
  • Do not use the entire URL as the link display text.
