We have Daniel, CEO, and Co-founder; Kieran, Head of Partnerships, Customer Success & Co-Founder; Kenneth, CMO; Camilla, Product Manager; Anmoljeet, Machine Learning AI Specialist; Jens, Graphic Designer.
We are a small team headquartered in Moncton, NB Canada who want to bring growers everywhere the ability to quickly diagnose their cannabis plants and implement informed solutions faster and more accurately than ever.
We are growers ourselves and understand the problems that you face every day. From over/under watering, white powdery mildew, thrips, and other pests, to nutrient deficiencies and nutrient locks. Any issue you may face you’ll find on the GrowDoc app.
GrowDoc is your cannabis plant doctor!
If you’ve ever experienced cannabis plant problems before, you know it can ruin your bud. Lower THC and terpenes, and yield are direct results of undiagnosed issues.
With fast photo diagnosing and easy access to solutions, the GrowDoc app is the perfect tool for cannabis growers of all skill levels. You don’t need to guess what the problem is anymore, just GrowDoc!
The app also has a giant database of over 40+ 100% accurate cannabis plant problems that you can browse, reference, and learn about! That along with a male/female scanner makes GrowDoc an excellent grow companion.
Think of an ordinary office worker getting up from their chair and quitting their day job on the spot to pursue their dream. That is how GrowDoc got its start and like anything worth doing it’s been a tough but rewarding road!
Now back up to 2018. It was a huge year for Canada and cannabis lovers. Why? That was the year that our nation decided to legalize Cannabis. Legalization opened the floodgates for not only business opportunities but also began the process of slowly de-stigmatizing cannabis culture. It also paved the way to start our company, GrowDoc!
Going back to our origins, GrowDoc CEO and co-founder Daniel left his first job out of college to pursue his dream of making a tool to help cannabis growers diagnose their sick cannabis plants. With his background in programming, the natural solution was to make something in tech.
Experimenting with machine learning AI and photo-diagnosis, his trajectory quickly pointed him to making an app, which is what it is today. There was an essential ingredient that would be needed if this was all going to work, however and that was research.

We needed clear examples of cannabis plant problems so that the machine learning AI could identify an issue when a user scanned their own plant. Having random examples from unverified sources was not going to cut it.
So we got heavily invested in cannabis research and have now conducted research in four research institutions across North America. Studying everything from cannabis plant nutrient deficiencies to our newest research in cannabis plant viruses, is a huge issue, especially for large-scale growers.

The cannabis industry is a roller coaster, but we wouldn’t have it any other way. How we came into this business was after all by taking a leap of faith and dedication to one idea. That there had to be a better way to diagnose and solve cannabis plant problems!
The GrowDoc app for a while lacked the accuracy and the polish that was needed to make a great customer experience. That all changed when we made a few additions to our team, one of which included Anmoljeet, an experienced and talented AI/machine learning specialist and Jens, our graphic designer. With their help, we have increased accuracy by over 2X and created a much better looking and easier app to use!
“...we decided to implement mmal-net which uses a method to crop the feature dense areas of the pictures and run the model on these areas instead of the entire picture. This resulted in accuracy gains to 80-85% accuracy.” - Anmoljeet

The best part about this new update is the connectivity between the app and our AI dataset. This connection will allow us to make upgrades to our AI and it will instantly reflect in the app scanning ability. This means better and increased accuracy in real-time!
We hope you are as excited about our new update as we are!
Hey everyone, my name is Daniel Lirette. I was born in Shediac NB, but have lived and have a family here in Riverview for the last three years. I graduated college with computer programming and I dove straight into work for a successful local startup. I loved my job but I had other passions in life that I wanted to try and pursue…
I’ve been a grower for as long as I can remember. Whenever I encountered a problem with my cannabis plants I would ask on forums or look through blogs. I thought, “what if there was an app that could help me figure out what my plant’s issue is?” A few months later I quit my 9-5 office job and founded GrowDoc.
