When medicinal cannabis was legalized in Missouri, we were all ecstatic. It has seemed like a very uphill battle with covid interrupting it right at the start. Thankfully, we’re seeing more and more exciting news from companies all over the state up and running. I hope I get to see all dispensaries, cultivators and manufacturers get back on their feet and I

I am especially hopeful for adult use legalization for our state as well. I remember the first time I took photos of cannabis. It was like a whole world of unique beauty opened up. The female cannabis plant is gorgeous. Every single strain has a different kind of said beauty. I knew then that I wanted to combine my existing love and passion for portraiture with cannabis.

I started photography at a young age. I’d like to think MySpace had something to do with that. I was infatuated with the digital camera and I was always looking for the “cool way” to take photos in whichever fashion was most popular at that time. This brought me to my first DSLR camera and my first step in finding my path. At this point, I was doing photography for all the wrong reasons. Mainly, money. I wanted to do any shoot that was going to pay me the most. Weddings, engagements, family sessions, etc. Let me tell you, I was miserable. Do those photoshoots make me miserable now? No. Because I learned balance. I love doing photography. Period. I eventually found my niche in portrait, queer and dark photography and fell in love with my craft all over again. I came to know that it was not about the money. It was about the excitement of the project. The feeling I get from someone hanging my art on their wall. Knowing what I know now, I am so glad I took a step back and reevaluated what I wanted out of photography. This led me to finding one of the most beautiful subjects I had ever laid eyes on – cannabis.

CannaBizarre is a woman led creative company focused on providing feminine and powerful imagery of cannabis to the cannabis industry. It is important that we work together to, not only break the stigma around cannabis, but to also help reproductive rights, anti-racism, wrongful imprisonment of nonviolent cannabis offenders and be a strong ally to the LGBTQ+. It's not hard to believe that these communities coincide in more ways than one. Without the LGBTQ+ movement, we wouldn’t have the cannabis movement. Why not be an advocate and break the stigma for all? That is what CannaBizarre stands for.

CannaBizarre came to life when I realized I could make a difference in the cannabis industry with my art and I am here to prove that we don’t have to change who we are in order to break the stigma around cannabis.
