When brainstorming different words to work on, I intended to focus on words that had meanings I could illustrate. I wanted to also choose words that were profound and/or memorable to me. I came down with four words: whimsy, entropy, psychotic, and dawn.
From the four words, I chose to decide between PSYCHOTIC and DAWN. I chose these two because I thought these two designs best emulated the words' meanings. As I wrote the student statements for each design, my thought process became more coherent to me as well.
Though I would have decided on moving on with PSYCHOTIC, from peer feedback, I chose to continue working on DAWN for my final piece.
Design:
I wanted to portray the meaning of the word dawn and its relation with the rising of the sun. In this piece, the sun has not completely risen.
The letters of the words are stretched out to mimic the rays of the sun.
I used a soft gradient to emphasize the glowing effect of the sun.
I used the shape tool to outline a circle shape inside the word which is meant to mimic the sun, and I made created white circle to level out the rim of the word.
