My final human figure component of the assignment is a fortune teller sitting on a chair waving her hands in front of a crystal ball. I got the inspiration for this from my interest in the fortune-telling theme and spirituality. I put star designs on the fortune teller's dress to exemplify the sorcery aspect of the theme. For the crystal ball, I made a cylinder to act as a table and cut slots to attach the crystal ball. To make the scene stand up, I used long tabs that went into the figures and out of the paper on either side of the figures.
Artist Statement:
As an avid fan of David Bowie, for the shadow box, I decided to make it Bowie-themed. Since I planned on using the laser cutter for the shadow box, using Lightburn gave me more space to exercise my creativity and incorporate finer details. The front of the box will be the view from the back of the concert stage, the back of the box will be a silhouette of a crowd, and the sides have an outline of David Bowie. The bottom will have a flap with another silhouette of a crowd. To give it the box effect, I constructed tabs and slots so to connect the sides. The red lines are what will be scored and the black lines are what will be cut by the laser.
