For this project, I narrowed down my choices to three significant dreams I had: 1) hang gliding over a shore and a field of flowers 2) looking at the skyline in the night from a window cleaning lift of a tall building, and 3) a reoccurring dream I have of waking up and doing tasks, just to find out I was asleep the whole time I chose to work on my first choice because it is the dream that I remember had the most impact on me because of how vivid the details were. I also chose this dream because I thought I could use Photoshop to my advantage to emulate this concept the best.
When choosing the images to photoshop, I had to keep in mind that my options were limited because I could only use Royalty-free images. Additionally, each image had a different purpose so I used them differently. For example, while I selected only a few hot air balloons from its original image, I had to replicate the patch of the pink flower blooms repeatedly in order to fill up the space and convey the picture of a field of flowers. I took advantage of the split quality of the shore background - I left one side alone and filled the other side with flowers to achieve the characteristics of my dream. For the hang glider, I chose this image because of the coherent quality of the hang gliding mechanism, and although it did include the hang glider, it still had more focus on the hang gliding contraption.
"I dreamt that I was flying over a shore and then over a never-ending vibrant pink flower field."
Design:
For this project, I wanted to create a piece that captured the surrealistic and lucid quality of my dream.
In my final photoshop image, I reinforced the vibrant quality of the dream by manipulating the saturation and hue of the picture, especially the pink flower field.
I used masking to blend the flower field with the landscape. Select and mask was helpful in including subjects in the final image such as the hang glider and the hot air balloons in the distance. The Refine Hair tool was useful in cleaning up the clouds.
