For my VSM plan I decided to firstly analyze the current process and make note of things to deduct. The first thing I made note of was the order people were getting on the plane, what I found wrong with it is that people in the front are getting on first which inreases the chance of other people tripping while walking by, and an increased waiting time for the people seated farther back. I understand that the orange group are high priority but letting them board first just isn't practical, its a hassel for the rest of the passangers to have to move past them and deal with trying not to hit them with their luggage. I would eliminate having the people in the front board first, it would save more time when boarding since people don't have to stop and wait for people in front of them to put their things away, they just go to the back, put their luggage up and sit down. While doing this way I would also encourage doing it by seat/row number because that way we don't have people getting up and out to let someone into their seat.
What adds value?
Orange=Money, paying to go first
Yellow: Money, paying to go second
Non-value?
Orange: going first adds waiting time for other passangers boarding
Yellow: add's more waiting time for green passangers
Green: now has to weave around Orange and Yellow to get to their seats
My custom plane boarding chart
On average a plane of 24 people takes 10-15 minutes to board. The way they do it is loading front to back with first class being first, this causes issues such as congestion at the door, many people waiting outside the plane, and people tripping over one another.
My way only takes 5-7 minutes and is more efficient because people aren't tripping over each other, they are still waiting outside but for less time.
Cost:
The average amount they're making right now is about $240 per ticket per person for a full 24 person plane. With my method, it would cost about 2,000 to install the couches but with the couches they could raise prices and make twice as more.
Improvements:
Some bottlenecks I found in my design are the loading seat by seat when I could do row by row, not having first class be first, couches may be too expensive, and I could alternate the loading of the rows to make it more efficient while keeping first class happy.
