Today I learned about inspection and how important it is to the company and everyone building the parts. We went over how to read blueprints, GD&T and I spent time in inspection with mentors getting a hands-on experience.
First we did blueprint reading, I learned what abbreviations such as PL, PSDL, mean and what other things on the blueprints are important to understand. On blueprints there is the parts list which is telling you your part # and more specific things about your part, there's also a title block which has more details about the drawing, scale, tolerances and aircraft. There is the review block which has some more drawing stuff and reviews made. And lastly there's the picture area and opposite notes this is where 2D and 3D come in, more reviews, flag notes/things to change, the "picture sheet data list" (PSDL), and detailed views of our part.
I also learned about GD&T and its relation to inspection. There isn't much to GD&T but it describes our part, it helps us understand tolerances, helps with data about datums, and reall just lends a helping hand in understanding inspection and making sure everyone knows and understands the machinist language.
