VCE VM Numeracy is a practical, applied learning numeracy program, designed to develop the mathematical skills of students for life. This unit will enable students to better understand and extend their numeracy practices in a range of personal, public and vocational situations. In their local community, national and global environments, students will develop mathematical skills alongside the use of appropriate technologies. 

On the completion of these units, students will have a broad range of mathematical knowledge and skills to solve problems in real contexts for a range of workplace, personal, further learning and community settings relevant to society. Skills developed throughout this two-year course will include working with budgets and expenses within the workplace, loans and mortgages, medical and health numeracy, and data and statistical analysis of social health issues. Students will be provided with a mixture of theoretical and practical project-based activities to demonstrate their satisfactory understanding of the units.

As an alternative to VCE VM Numeracy, selected students may study VCE Foundation Mathematics, General Mathematics or Mathematical Methods to meet the Numeracy requirement of the VCE VM.
