Personalising Your Senior Program at Marian
There are many ways students personalise their senior years at Marian College, ensuring learning aligns with pathways, interests, and readiness while reflecting our Aspire program’s commitment to growth and purpose.
Acceleration (Advance Study)
Students may apply to accelerate in one subject only, including external courses such as languages.
Year 10 students may apply to study one Unit 1 & 2 sequence if they have demonstrated exceptional results in Year 9.
Year 11 students may apply to study one Unit 3 & 4 sequence if they have achieved exceptional results in Year 10 or Unit 1 & 2 studies.
Applications are required and assessed against clear criteria (available via the SEQTA Subject Selection Portal). Approval is required before enrolment.
Higher Education Studies (Year 12)
Students who have excelled in Unit 3 & 4 studies in Year 11 may apply to complete a first-year university subject as part of their Year 12 program. Availability and application details are provided to students each September.
External Studies
Students may undertake a VET course, language, or other VCE subject externally or via distance education. Students must:
Notify the Senior Pathways Leader.
Ensure the external study is noted on their subject selection form.
VCE Non-ATAR (Year 12)
A VCE Non-ATAR program is only considered after counselling with the student and parents to ensure it is the most suitable pathway. This program does not provide an ATAR.
Victorian Pathways Certificate (VPC)
The VPC is invite-only, designed for students who would benefit from an individualised, flexible program when VCE or VM is not the best fit. This pathway supports students in developing skills and confidence for further education, training, or employment.
At Marian, personalisation in the senior years is part of our Aspire program, empowering each student to make informed, purposeful choices while maintaining dignity, agency, and flexibility for their future pathways.
