At Marian College, the Senior Years Programs represent the Aspire stage of your learning journey, where you prepare for your next steps beyond school. In Years 11 and 12, you will personalise your pathway with options that align with your aspirations, whether that is university, TAFE, a traineeship, an apprenticeship, or entering the workforce.
With guidance from teachers and your family, you are encouraged to select a program that supports your goals and builds on your learning during the Wonder and Explore years. Senior pathway options include VCE, VCE Vocational Major, VET, and School-Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships (SBATs), allowing you to shape a future that reflects your interests and ambitions.
If you are unsure about your post-school pathway, it is important to choose a program that keeps your options open. The Careers and Pathways Team, your subject selection mentor, and your teachers are here to support you, and you are encouraged to research your options.
All Year 10 students complete the Morrisby Profile and meet with the Careers and Pathways Team to guide their subject selection. Year 11 students can also book appointments for additional advice. Subject selection mentoring is provided through the Wellbeing Program.
At Marian College, the following pathway options are available:
Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) – ATAR and Non-ATAR
VCE Vocational Major (VCE VM)
Victorian Pathways Certificate (VPC) – offered to selected students, subject to numbers
Students may include VET certificates within these pathways.
Subject selection is completed online using Web Preferences. You will receive instructions, access codes, and passwords to complete this process at school or at home. Your selections must be entered by the deadline and printed with a signed receipt from a parent/guardian. Preferences submitted late may not be accommodated.
Please note that while every effort is made to allocate students to their preferred subjects, choices may not always be possible due to class sizes, timetabling constraints, and resource availability.
Students interested in acceleration studies (Units 1/2 in Year 10 or Units 3/4 in Year 11, including VET) must submit an Acceleration Application Form provided by the due date and meet the outlined criteria.
Students choosing VCE VM will also need to complete a VCE VM Application Form and will undertake mentoring to develop their VCE VM Learning Plan.
Please refer to the Key Dates page in this handbook for all timelines related to subject selection.
