This lesson combines The 3 Regions of Utah, the Rule of Thirds and Folk art. Check out the slides below.
Using the Rule of Thirds and imagery from each of the 3 Regions of Utah you will create a landscape. The bottom section will have images representing the Colorado Plateau, the middle section - The Great Basin and the top section -the Rocky Mountains. Follow the steps below in the photo series. Start with pencil, then trace your lines with crayon. In each section make a colorful pattern or design. Paint lightly over each section.
Using the idea of the rule of thirds vertically, each region is represented in layers.
Draw images that represent the Colorado Plateau in the bottom section.
Draw images that represent the Great Basin in the middle section
Draw lines that represent the Rocky Mountains in the top section. Leave at least a little room at the top for the sky.
For this next part you use oil pastels if you have them, or crayons.
Outline each section in black or you can choose to do it in the other of the section
Outline them all.
Now fill each section with patterns.
You can use any colors for each section.
Or multiple colors
The colors can contrast what you will paint them or be complementary.
Here is an example of the designs in each section
Start painting each section with watercolor. Pick colors that you might find in each region
