What I Learned:
Strengthened leadership and creative direction skills by overseeing the game’s overall design trajectory, learning how to align tone, narrative, and mechanics into a cohesive player experience.
Gained experience with thematic systems design by developing an insanity-based resource mechanic inspired by nautical literature (e.g. Moby Dick), exploring how abstract themes can drive pacing, escalation, and counterplay.
Refined systemic thinking through the creation of a drafting-based deckbuilding system, enabling players to fuse archetypes and encouraging emergent strategies through meaningful choice.
Expanded design toolkit by designing and balancing over 100 player cards, focusing on synergy, variety, and mechanical clarity to support multiple distinct playstyles.
Learned how to design AI-countered gameplay by collaborating closely with the AI programmer to create enemy abilities that challenged players while reinforcing fair, learnable interactions.
Gained hands-on experience with VO pipelines by facilitating the recording and implementation of 50+ card voice lines, understanding how audio feedback reinforces mechanical and narrative clarity.
