SOUTHSIDE ALUMNI CONTRIBUTE TO SHORTER UNIVERSITY VICTORY

The Shorter University men's soccer team opened their 2022 season with a 3-0 victory over Trinity Baptist College on Friday. Southside Alumni Isaac Franklin and John Doster contributed in the victory. Franklin scored the final goal in the 58th minute. Doster entered the game in the 26th minute and played 64 minutes.


The Hawks led 3-0 on Thursday before the game was suspended in the 68th minute due to lightning. The two Baptist schools finished the match Friday morning. Shorter University (NCAA DII) plays in the Gulf South Conference, one of the strongest soccer conferences at any level.


Mattia Maiello struck first for SU in the 25th minute set up by Santiago Naliato. Five minutes later, Naliato delivered to Rome High School standout, freshman Gonzalo Lemus, for his first collegiate goal to make it 2-0 at the half.


Junior Isaac Franklin (Southside, AL) made it 3-0 for the Hawks as he banged home a low drive from 22 yards in the 58th minute.


Goalkeepers, senior Javy Flores combined for the shutout with Patrick Cordero as the sophomore from Spain had to come up big on a couple saves to preserve the clean sheet.


The Hawks return to action on Saturday in Mount Vernon GA to take on Brewton-Parker College for a 6:00 kickoff. Shorter plays Brewton Parker on YouTube Live on Saturday, 8/27 at 5 pm. CLICK HERE TO WATCH
