This week's spread is all about discussing how we replenish our artist creativity wells. This time around, I used Crayola crayons after really long time as I was spending time with my niece and she wanted me to draw with her.
I had recently read a chapter of the book "the Artist Way" by Julia Cameron in which she exactly talks about this topic. She discussed how your artist "well" can get dry right around the time that work is going too well, precisely because you are too focused on pouring yourself out to your work that you forget about all other aspects of your life. It is important to notice how you only get water out of the well once water has been poured inside it before, "Water in, water out." She also mentioned that you need to constantly spend time with your sources of inspiration so you can continuously build upon your visual library.
I tried to illustrate this truth on the left side of my spread, starting with a waterfall and a well right beneath it. on the left side of the paper I used colored pencil to draw a colorful water pattern as a background for writing about all the things that help me replenish myself. Through this spread I discovered that I have a really fun time drawing simple abstract patterns.
The list of what helps me replenish my well:
Using Color
Spending time with other people
Morning pages
Family time
Quality Sleep
Drinking water (haha)
Having weekly artist dates
Love
Good healthy Food
Time
Fresh air/nature time
