After engaging with the Bowyer (2017) and Dabbagh (2005) readings, as well as considering my very own Learning Design Plan (which we all just submitted a rationale recently) and the importance of evaluation in getting the right feedback to ensure success. In my case, considering using Blended Learning, Pombo and Moreira (2012) indicate that when considering evaluation, there are four elements that need to be taken into consideration when evaluating blended learning programmes: 1. What is the purpose of evaluation? To improve student engagement, resources, or overall course quality? 2. Who should be involved? Lecturers, students, course leaders? 3. How and when should evaluation take place? Methods of data collection; during the course or at the end? 4. What should be evaluated? Teaching, learning, course outcomes, resources, quality of assessment?
Bergvliet Primary Education Project:
What was the need for which the projects, programmes and/or interventions were put in place?
To teach real life skills (technology literacy) in promoting digital literacy in the aspiration to better prepare learners to learn with devices, which is the most prevalent way to learn in HE. "access to a wider variety of resources and tools, and provide them with access to multiple viewpoints from the web, their peers, and other educators. This was to be an invaluable preparation for their school years still to follow, as they move into high-school."
Teaching staff, Grade 7 learners, ICT staff, Executive School staff
Participants were asked to complete a questionnaire in which a one dimensional Likert scale was used to rate responses. Teachers were asked to rate each statement on the response scale, after which their views were aggregated and summarised. Semi-structured interviews were also conducted with teachers and key- players at the school. This data was mined through Survey Monkey and hosted on the school system.
To gauge the experiences of the teachers and learners who had participated in the Intel® Education Software Project, the evaluation feedback helped refine the delivery, "This project provided invaluable lessons that can be used to inform the design of future implementations". The topics covered in this report concerned infrastructure; Synergy between curriculum and tablet
implementation; Time & Access.
What really stood out for me in this case was the 4 critical area to guaranteeing success, which seems to be synonymous with my own Learning Design Plan in possibly being successful.
1. ICT infrastructure readiness
2. Tablet readiness
3. Teachers’ pedagogical vision
4. Technical support for teachers
