How do I usually undertake the creation of teaching and learning materials and/or activities?
When deciding what the students will learn, I draw on a needs analysis which identifies the frame and parameters to work with regarding objectives, budgets and resources. Depending on these criteria, learning could happen asynchronously through virtual learning environments with supportive and collaborative features.
Ususally planning involves all stakeholders, even current students for UX design concepts and planning is done usually within a 12 month period, usually including tech that has 12 month or less integration standards.
F2F lecturing can be replaced through interactive videos through a VLE, but cannot substitute the need for contact and physical support for first time subject learners who may need synchronous support for tough subjects. I usually design using solutions that have proven technical support and the modification of teaching and learning materials are down to using feature of these learning solutions (LMS) and they way they deliver it to a designated audience.
I always include a platform for collaboration and commenting that is graded on contribution to encourage peer to peer learning as well as to monitor the individual understanding of the learner and intervene at any time. An end of chapter assessment is also used in the form of either a written assignment or quiz.
Which of the identities they describe resonates most with you?
Definitely the Artist: brings a divergent, idea oriented approach most suits me, I think about solutions erratically and often the best ideas come to me as a push and pull effect of possibilities.
What are the strengths and weaknesses of this identity? Strengths: flexible, tends to be more innovative.
Weaknesses: Difficult to begin manifesting creativity, not heavily supported in most corporate environments.
Is there a tension between the kind of designer you think you are, and the kind of design work you find yourself doing? At the moment, being in charge of what I design for my start up, I seem to have little tension in being confined to use my design thinking in a certain way. I am more able now, to design a solution and present it as a good idea in which discussions with all stakeholders help to refine the entire design.
